Once a month, we invite everyone to join us for a shared dance experience on our rehearsal stage THE FLOOR. Whether beginner or professional, young or old, athletic or laid-back — everyone is welcome!
The dance sessions are led by different dancers from the regional independent scene and are always designed so that participants with no prior dance experience can enjoy them as well. This time, your host is:
Kevin Albancando Tuntaquimba is a freelance dancer, choreographer, and dance educator with roots in funk and hip-hop culture, who has been developing his practice autodidactically for over 20 years. In his work, he combines popping and breaking with contemporary dance, creating new movement languages. He is currently active as a performer in several productions in Baden-Württemberg and Saxony and is realizing his first smaller independent projects.
The starting point of this dance-with workshop is waving — a dance style that emerged in the 1970s within hip-hop and funk culture and is characterized by isolations, clear transitions, and wave-like movements traveling through the entire body.
These are complemented by elements of contemporary dance that focus on spatial awareness, weight, contact, and shared movement. In this way, waving is experienced not only as an individual technique, but also as a means of connecting with other people.
Important note on the venue:Please note that this event takes place on the grounds of the Pittlerwerke, at “the floor” dance studio, Am Börnchen, not at WUEST.
